A few weeks ago I was honoured to get a call to say I'd been nominated for the 'Young Achievers Award' at the YWOA 2016! I had no idea how huge the event would be and enjoyed every second!
To be amongst 750 inspirational Yorkshire women was a great privilege and to be shortlisted was almost unbelievable! Some of the women nominated had life changing and inspiring stories doing great things for our county, I felt fantastic to be walking among them!
This year the Sue Ryder Charity celebrated the events 30th Birthday. The Charity provides incredible hospice and neurological care for people facing a frightening, life changing diagnosis. I had the great honour of being seated with 3 other nominees, one of which Mary Benson who won in the category for Business Women 2016! It was an amazing moment to share with her as she really didn't expect to win but truly deserved it! Congratulations!
As well as some amazing stories shared that day I also got the opportunity to meet some more familiar Yorkshire Women who were there supporting the event! Liz Green, Christine Talbot, Stephanie Hirst, Gaynor Faye, Claire Young and Lizzie Jones were all a joy and pleasure to meet! Lizzie Jones did an exceptional performance at the end of the ceremony which brought a tear to most of our eyes!
I wouldn't be where I am today, being given these amazing opportunities without the support of my wonderful friends and family. I took my mum to the event and she was bursting with pride throughout the day! I also wouldn't be where I am without the amazing support and mentoring of Claire Harper! A truly amazing women who pushes me every day to continue and do better! Thank you Claire for all you do and for this wonderful experience!
After leaving the event I had time to reflect on some of the amazing stories I had heard. It has inspired me to do more for others! I feel truly blessed to have my fantastic new business, great family and friends and above all my health! I'm in a position now where I can try to use my venue to help fundraise for an amazing local charity. The Forget Me Not Children's Hospice supports over 185 local children with life shortening conditions and their families in West Yorkshire. This year Crafty Kids will be supporting and fundraising for the amazing organisation! Watch this space on how you can help, donate and support us!
